The Crazy Ones Who Do It All

Founding a company is easy.

Being a parent is no big deal.

Running a household is simple.

Having pets is all fun and games.

We both know that’s complete BS.

But here’s what I’ve been thinking about lately: each challenge alone feels manageable. Stack them all together? That’s where the real magic (and madness) happens.

The Dad Founder Paradox

Most people pick their one hard thing. Career OR family. Stability OR risk. Present OR future.

But some of us are wired differently.

We’re not satisfied with just one challenge. We want it all.

We look at that seemingly impossible juggling act and think, “Yeah, I can do all of that… at the same time… successfully.”

Are we crazy? Yes, probably.

Here’s what I’ve learned after 10 years of doing this dance:

  • You discover that you’re capable of way more than you thought.
  • You realize that through a well-defined “why,” it’s not about you anymore. It’s about building something that matters for the people who matter most.
  • Nothing worth having comes easy. But everything worth having becomes possible when you accept a little bit of crazy. You stop asking “Can I?” and start asking “How will I?”

Don’t get me wrong, this is not easy! I’m not trying to romanticize the struggle. Most days I feel like I’m barely getting by and not making enough progress. It feels impossible at times.

But if you’re a crazy person like me who chose to go ALL IN on both building a business and raising humans, you are NOT ALONE!

You’re capable of way more than you think.

What I’m curious about: What are you holding back on because you think it’s “too much”? Hit reply and let me know. I read every response.

Building,

David

P.S. Next week I’m sharing the 3 systems that keep me (mostly) sane while juggling everything. If you know another Dad Founder who might need this, forward it their way.

Hey friend, I’m writing this at 11:37 PM on a Sunday night, which is exactly the problem I’m about to tell you about. Seven weeks ago, my world got beautifully disrupted by our newest little human - Austin James Wells. (Born 7/5/25!) Between sleepless nights, summer break chaos with the other kids, and trying to keep my business moving forward, my schedule became… well, let’s call it “creative.” And by creative, I mean completely broken. The Late-Night Lie I Kept Telling Myself Here’s the...

Why Your Language Reveals Everything A few weeks ago I had coffee with a lawyer who specializes in SaaS businesses. Super smart guy. He has founded a couple of companies himself and works with other successful SaaS founders as legal counsel. After our meeting, he mentioned candidly to me: “Just wanted to let you know that during our conversation I picked up on a couple of things from the way you spoke about your business. I noticed you seem unsure about what you’re creating. Certain things...
